Dear Collegue,
I am pleased to announce you the launch of the First Young Researchers Workshop on Science and Law – Scientific Evidence in International, European and WTO Law which will be hosted by the University of Lecce-ISUFI under the auspices of the PhD Programme in International Economic Law of Bocconi University, Milan on 31st May and 1st June, 2007. (check out at http://www.isufi.it/news.htm)
The aim of the Workshop is to bring together a group of young scholars with a strong interest in the controversial relationship between Science and Law, in particular on the role of scientific evidence in International, European and WTO Law (risk analysis and its main components, precautionary principle, role of experts, standard-setting organisations, etc.) with regard to both law making processes and dispute settlement experiences. It will provide them with a unique chance to discuss their projects in a young and informal academic environment thus fostering dialogue with a view to promoting further research.
The Workshop will encompass several types of scientific sessions within which three or four papers will be presented by young researchers selected according to the submission procedure.
Each session will be chaired by invited professors (such as Laurence Boisson de Chazournes, University of Geneva; Francesco Francioni, European University Institute, Florence; Nicolas de Sadeleer, University of Bruxelles) who will discuss the papers and preside over the debate.
English is the working language.
Travel Awards are available for all selected participants up to 200 Euros. Lodging service will also be provided in one of the best hotels in town.
Additional information will be posted on the ISUFI website (www.isufi.it) as it becomes available and the preliminary program will be posted on the same website as soon as the selection process is ended.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further information.
I would be grateful if you could help me in advertising the event among your Phd students and collegues.
I look forward to meeting you in Lecce.
